Mini EDC Flashlight Heat Test: How Hot Do They REALLY Get? (Wurkkos, Sofirn & More)

The Heat Challenge of Mini EDC Flashlights:

As flashlights shrink in size and increase in output, managing heat dissipation becomes a critical challenge. These devices, often encased in metal, can quickly reach temperatures that are uncomfortable or even dangerous. We set out to quantify this heat generation with a comprehensive thermal test.

The Thermal Master Technologies P2 Pro: A Window into Heat:

Our primary tool for this test was the Thermal Master Technologies P2 Pro. This ultra-compact thermal camera allowed us to capture real-time temperature data and visually represent heat distribution. The P2 Pro's precision and portability made it ideal for this project.

Our Testing Methodology:

We subjected each flashlight to a standardized runtime test, capturing thermal footage in real time. This allowed us to observe the heat buildup to each flashlights peak level. We also measured beam patterns, lux output at 50mm (see spreadsheet below), and assessed the build quality of each light.

Key Findings: Shocking Temperatures:

The results were eye-opening. One of the smaller, higher-output flashlights reached temperatures exceeding 136°F (58.3°C). This level of heat can cause discomfort and even burns. Our thermal footage vividly illustrates the intensity of heat generated by these devices.

Implications for EDC Users:

These findings highlight the importance of understanding the thermal characteristics of your EDC flashlight. Users should be aware of the potential for heat buildup and take precautions when warranted.
